HEADLINE ACT: Ainsley Burrows

Ainsley Burrows is a former member of the world famous NuYorican Café poetry slam team, a highly respected international poet and undoubtedly one of the finer surrealist poets of his generation.

After a childhood spent in Jamaica, he dabbled with poetry while studying for a BA in Accounting and eventually quit academia to write full-time in the first year of an MBA after a near-fatal accident caused him to re-evaluate his life. He emerged as a respected poet in New York in the late 1990s and soon visited the UK where he also gained a loyal following. He has since read at several universities and colleges worldwide, and been featured at festivals such as the Wordstock Festival in New York and the Lancaster Literature Festival in the UK.

Ainsley has an intense stage presence that makes any show he performs as a memorable experience. Whether speaking, rapping, chanting, or whispering, he always delivers. He is the author of Black Angels with Sky Blue Feathers and The Woman who Isn't Was and was part of the original Bringing the House Down show in 2003. Author of Black Angels with Sky Blue Feathers and The Woman Who Isn't Was

Roger Robinson: Veteran poet/lyricist who always sets the stage alight with his Trini flavour. Author of Adventures in 3D and Suitcase.

Malika Booker: Co-founder of the international writers collective Malika's Poetry Kitchen. Has toured with Modern Love and Kin and was featured on the BBC's Whine Gum's TV Series.

Inua 'phaze' Ellams: Former debutant on BTHD, Inua has gone on to carve a reputation for himself nationally and now hosts New Blood at the Poetry Cafe. Author of 13 Fairy Negro Tales.

Gemma Weekes: A constantly changing lost soul when it comes to naming herself for stage, Gemma's writing stays steady. She put it out in a passionate hybrid of spoken word, prose and song, with a distinct London twang.

Zawe Ashton: Young writer extraordinaire, makes her London debut for BTHD after leaving Manchester in awe. Look out for the most amazing metaphors on this side of logic.

Hosted by Nii Ayikwei Parkes; full-time Ghanaian, part-time writer, part-time dreamer and creator of BTHD. He'll be on stage again after a two-year hiatus during which he prosed to death.
